Imogen Cunningham pursued her Pictorialist photographic work with a large format camera. She was always interested in being around younger people and I suspect that Stan was a person who she met and who she engaged to photograph.

Sherwood Anderson and Elizabeth Prall 2
Imogen Cunningham pursued her Pictorialist photographic work with a large format camera. The Sherwood Anderson images are from, I believe, a paid portrait session. When Imogen photographed the sitter, if the spouse was of interest to her, she photographed them as well — usually together. This really is evident in the Sherwood Anderson photo!
